A virtual-reality immersion into the fragmented memories of a World War I photographer

Trailer The story behind the experience

TRAILER

TRAILER

In 1974, an album counting 269 photographs of World War I was discovered in an abandoned house in Morin-Heights (Quebec, Canada). After much research, the story and journey of its owner, Fletcher Wade Moses, still remains largely a mystery.

The Unknown Photographer is a virtual-reality immersion into the fragmented memories of a World War I photographer.

THE STORY BEHIND THE EXPERIENCE

Finding Fletcher Wade Moses, a film by Bertrand Carrière : the origins of the project

THE STORY BEHIND THE EXPERIENCE

Over the past 30 years, Bertrand Carrière has shaped a photographic oeuvre that is at once personal and varied. A documentary photographer, he is interested in the memory and history of places.

So when he inherited a mysterious album of World War I photographs, Bertrand Carrière decided to inspire a rendezvous with history, and set off on the trail of Fletcher Wade Moses, owner of the album. Criss-crossing sites transformed by war and meeting Wade’s heirs, Carrière’s quest led him through the broken terrain of a memory at once so near yet so far.
